The horse riding lessons

Tamatea playing ball
with his car.

Children can have five horse riding lessons for 50 guilders. So we warned the boys to make the most of the only lessons we are paying for!

"When I first got on the horse I found it hard to balance then I relized I did not need to"
Tama's sentences
Around and around

Hannah, Arash's sister, was also there!
And then back to our ordinary lives.

Here, Tama, is waiting for me to play a game of lego indoor hockey with him.
The February issue of Arts Dialogue was posted this weekend as well.

On February 13th we visited Barbara, Coskun and their 6 day old son, Robin.

Toroa wrote: Whone day Tama came home whith a game ,it was could cretures. You have to hatch and raise a norne. A norn is a animal dat needs feeding and education.

And in Tama's words: This week I got a game called Creatures. I got it from Coskun. He had one good reason which was that the game had come to life. The game is about getting a baby. He must be given a name. He must be fed. He must be played with. He must be protected from grendals. He must be punished if bad. He must be patted if good.

For the first few days Toroa and Tama were very worried about getting their creature to eat and rang Coskun a few times for advice.

Feb 17th: This morning I woke to find Tama busy making a church out of paper for his castle.

Later being inspired by a movie about baseball, we three played this in the hall and then later Tama found two children to play baseball with on the grounds below our flat.

February 21st
The final horse riding lesson

Drawing by Toroa.

The boys had their final horse-riding lesson.

They brought home forms for doing further lessons but, we told them that they have to pay for their own lessons from now on.

<-- Note: the figure in brackets. He has been taught that if he makes a mistake in writing to put a bracket around the mistake.

February 23rd
Tama went through a drawing frenzy making semi-surrealist drawings one after the other. Below is one of them.

Each of the tiny figures is a family member.
Left to Right: Tama on a horse between the houses, Sen in the plane, Sonja almost at the top of the mountain, and Toroa playing the violin.

Toroa got his cito-test results. 548 out of 550. This is not very meaningful when a score of 512 was considered extremely low, however he was rated at 97% out of all the 11 and 12 year olds who sat the test in Holland. So he did well and can go to the high school we chose. Now he needs to practice for his entrance exam for music.

A Leidenesque sunset viewed from our living room.

Here are some photos from the games.

Feb 26: Ayyám-i-Há Party

The boys and I cycled to our neighbouring Bahai community to go to their Ayyám-i-Há Party. It was a mere 10 minutes on the bicycle. First we ate pancakes and delicious food and then we played games and sang.

Shooting candles with the water pistol was very popular.

Finally... a drawing by Tama in photoshop done at my work on February 25th.

And a new game at my work. Nineteen owls and bats to found by clicking mindlessly on a black screen.
