The exhibition opening

"Parking Spaces for important visitors", performance by Sen McGlinn in front of the Te Wa Gallery,
Drews Ave, W-h-anganui.

(More about this work)     Parking Spaces For Important Visitors
Performance/installation by Jacqueline, Sen & Sonja.

Left to Right: Tree form (black vertical form) by Joke, Painting (in blue) by Liz, Inspiration (the green things on the floor) by Sen & Sonja, The red plant-like forms on the far shelf, by Jacqueline, Sweet Sixteen, orange textile by Natalie.

We'd forgotten the wok and so had to drive back for that, making our arrival in W-h-anganui later than ever. My sisters helped to hang the show. Here Louise is putting up the textile work by Natalie and Marianne and Beverley are sitting on the floor sticking tape to green canvas shapes.

On the floor a cluster of green shoots, (the work Inspiration by Sen and Sonja) seem to be sprouting through, like spring's affirmation; a faith in renewal. Each leaf is a micro-painting on shaped canvas and textile, with words from the poem "New Vessels" by Sen McGlinn. Some texts read: "Earth turns / the river in the stars / is gathering strength for the thaw."

January 2nd:
The Gallery is an old shop in a 1925 building in the centre of Wanganui. It was so quiet and picturesque that morning.

Then I visited Matt's studio and asked him about his work. I was impressed with the amount of work he has done. So diverse and so good.

Then I rushed back to Denis and Marion's place to pick Sen and the sons. They'd been kite flying in a park.

Drews Ave, the street leads up from the very centre of this city up to the park which has the Public Art Gallery in it.

And so we drove northward towards Auckland...

We had fish and chips for dinner in Te Kuiti (a place I remember hitching through and where my mother was born).

Then at about an hour south of Auckland the car died!
A towtruck and Jane took us home.
